... london ...
Well, my time here in London has come to a close. Before I get home and get busy with daily life again I am going to bullet point my favorite and memorable moments of the trip.
- I got to hang out with Katie Trujillo, get to know Zach and Jody better, finally met a slew of IG and Facebook friends in person.
- I managed to get lost on the tube by not noticing that there was an Edgeware stop and an Edgeware Road stop. So about 45 minutes outside of the city with only and 1.5 hours until I was due to speak I was in quite the panic trying to get back to the Metropole! Thankfully Katie was with me and kept me calm.
- Had dinner with various friends, new and old.
- Ate dinner at St. John - which was ABSOLUTELY delish. Made my friend try bone marrow - and she liked it! It was my first time too, but I knew I'd love it based on the reviews from my foodie friends. I also tried lambs tongue and oh my word - it was good. There really wasn't anything at this place that wasn't. Even the crumble for dessert was delish.
- After said dinner wrapped up it was too late to take the tube, so we WALKED the 3 miles back to the hotel. I love every moment soaking in the last little bits of London that I could.
- I spoke three different times on three different topics - and all seemed well received.
- I got recognized by someone I didn't know (more than once) and felt rather odd about it all. Especially when they say they knew me from my photograph - good job Lacy! I look like me!
- I was told by a British couple that my version of a British accent (although "very middle class") was pretty good - that made my day - no matter what "class" it is...
- Had great laughs and enjoyed getting to know so many inspiring people. Really, I was just in a constant state of wonder and awe at how lucky, fortunate and grateful I was to be there.
- Road more trains that I care to remember.
- Never once took a taxi.
- Walked as much as I could.
- Saw Buckingham Palace and was amazed at how much smaller it looks in person than it does on television.
- Went to the British History Museum and again, drop jaw gorgeous. I was walking around with a perma-smile on my face. I got to see a bunch of old things -- and MUMMIES!! I have always wanted to see a mummy and they did not disappoint.
- I spotted a few Cooper Minis.
- I rode on the top of a double decker bus and they are scary crazy because people just cross when and where ever they feel like it.
- I had a "Mr. Darcy" moment when I went to get off the Heathrow Express. In general, everyone was so polite and accommodating!
- I didn't watch a lick of television (um, I need my downtown abbey!).
- I went to see Wicked and to quote my IG.... I laughed, I cried, I was close enough to get spit on. I just have chills thinking about my experience at Wicked. It was so incredibly surreal. When you sit that close and you can see practically everything and hear them without having to rely on the mic it is like they are singing just for you, performing just for you, you enter into a whole different world and really get wrapped up in the story (of which I love! Go Elphaba!!)
- I ate pub fare, tapas, indian food, traditional english and malaysian food!
- And lastly, I picked up a few new words... :)
