... a window into ...

... our months on Trauma.

Just to give others an idea of what it is like to be married to a surgeon... it is not all glamorous as you may think.  Our recent schedule has gone like this...

Monday - On call (the hubs goes in at 6am and does surgery all day and night until the next day)
Tuesday - Comes home at 2pm (Noon if he's lucky.) Sleeps until 5 or 6 depending on if I have work that night.  Eats dinner with us, goes back to bed at 8pm.
Wednesday - On Call (same as above)
Thursday - Comes home by 2pm. Sleeps until 5 or 6. Eats dinner, bed at 8pm.
Friday - Goes in at 6am, Home by 5 or 6pm.
Saturday - OMG, a day off!
Sunday- On Call --- start the whole thing over again... sheeesh!

So let's count that folks... in one week we saw him a grand total of oh --- 4 to 6 hours + one off Day.  And that is a good month.  Some months - there are no days off.  Some months - I am so busy with my own job, that our time to see each other is in passing "hellos" while relaying information about Vaughn.  Often times I will get in my car on the way to a session and call Trevor to chat about our days on my way.

... BUT ...

I would not trade this life/experience for the world.  OMG!  I just said/typed that.  I thought at the first few years women were crazy with a capital C for saying such a thing!

How can I not love our time we spent building and evolving ourselves during residency?  Trevor has become an excellent surgeon (although there are times it still shocks my brain to hear him introduced by others as Dr.).  I have evolved my business as a professional photographer into something I am absolutely thrilled with and continue to enjoy seeing where it takes me and will go.

While it may not be a glamorous life on paper, we tend to be just as happy as anyone else.  During those four to six hours we have to spend together; we make Tim Gunn proud and "Make it work."

We make trips to visit friends, just "veg" in front of video games or visit some of our favorite restaurants.  You want to know why residents look like they have money?  It is because they only get a chance to spend it one or two days out of the month when they don't feel exceptionally exhausted!  Ha!

So yes, my dear friends...

There you have it.  Almost five years later and I am thankful for every penny pinching moment.  Who would have guessed?
