Fix-It-Friday | i ♥ faces family week



As most of you know, I work as a digital retouch artist for NILMDTS. It was i faces weekly Fix-It-Friday that first made me notice the photography site. I was searching for a certain technique to use on a photo for NILMDTS and happened upon a Fix-It-Friday. I have always participated privately - seeing what I can come up with. I figured it is time to jump in with both feet considering I am now doing the weekly challenges as well.

And here are my edited versions - one in color and one in a chocolate toned b&w {a great balance between straight sepia and flat b&w}:

Fix It Friday #41 Color Edit

No actions were run on this photo. All edits were done step by step.

  1. Adjusted the levels.

  2. Selected faces and adjusted the curves.

  3. Crop

  4. Rotation

  5. Re-crop

  6. Used quick layer mask to select areas that were blown out.

  7. Used curve tool to adjust selected areas.

  8. Used the burn tool to add some depth to the edges.

  9. Filled a layer with brown and overlayed that to warm it up a bit.

  10. Merged layers.


Fix It Friday #41 Chocolate B&W Edit

No actions were run on this photo. All edits were done step by step.

  1. Desat the color image.

  2. Filled a new layer with a brown hue. Chose a color burn and opacity to achieve a look I liked.

  3. Filled a new layer with a peach hue. Chose an overlay and opacity to achieve a look I liked.

  4. Changed the contrast and brightness (+ for both)

  5. Merged layers.
