The Plates - Thank You My Dear Sister-in-Law

I get all spring fever'ish this time of year. It is mostly moving furniture that I do - which confuses T greatly when he arrives home wondering if this really is his house. This year, I decided to take on the task of putting some things above my shelves in the kitchen.

It's not really all that I wanted to do, I had a few alternative ideas. I am sure it will change and progress through our time in this home. For now, I am working on a limited budget - we are going on vacation the first week in April and I have spied the perfect little Easter dress at a local boutique. So those are first.

I did the best with what I had. I must say, I dug out a few treasures I had almost forgotten.

The first are the lamps that I inherited from my Great Grandmother Muehl. We'll call them the Millie lamps. As a child, my sister JP and I used to play with the jewels that hung from the side (think a'la Pollyanna). We would play shop and "sell" the jewels to each other. I still remember that house, every detail of it. It brings back such warm memories of sinkers and roast beef sandwiches. My G'Gram could stick her knife into the side of her bread and it would come out clean as a whistle, I still have yet to master this awesome trick. I remember the pool we used to swim in. I remember the garden we used to go get raspberries in and make jam (okay watch my grandmothers do it). No one makes raspberry jam or peanut butter balls like my G'Gram Muehl. So, these lamps will always hold a special place in my heart and home. Even if they don't fit my style - I'll make 'em fit darn it! They were the one and only thing I wanted when she passed away and my Gram Kidder remembered that. I was thrilled when I took the box from my parents house. My mom had no idea what it was, but I knew. I love those lamps and all the memories that I reflect on every time I look at them.

The other side is another treasure of memories and a great dig (out of my closet). My flowers I carried on my wedding day. I am so happy I decided to go with silk. I can have them forever and remember the secret thing I am not allowed to tell anyone - according to Trevor. He better be good to me, I have major dirt on that kid!! There is also a photo of the temple we got married in from John Tanner. John was Trevor's roommate while we were dating and is like a brother to me! He is such a great guy and even travelled to Utah just for our wedding! That is a stellar friend. Lastly, but not least, are the plates that Carrie brought me back from her vacation to Costa Rica. It was awesome that she thought of me on her trip and they are great little plates I love dearly, but had no place to properly display in the last house, so they were boxed up. Luckily, I dug them out today and they make the perfect little finishing touch! Thanks Carrie!!

I am still adding, like I mentioned above. I am planning on getting our last name in letters from the craft store and paint them to match so that it ties the kitchen (which is an awful "rust" color - I mean who paints that in an apartment as an accent wall, have they ever heard of neutrals!?!) in with the rest of the house.
